From the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection:
'Gustav Klimt was quoted as saying that, “Art is a Line Around Your Thoughts.” Like his work, it’s pretty evocative – Lines of thought, lines as connecting symbols, lines as expression, lines as visual or conceptual metaphors of all kinds. Does the idea of ‘lines’ in any of its meaning permeate your work?'
I am thrilled to have two icons accepted into the exhibition! In the icon, The Holy Napkin, I painted an icon of Christ that borrows from the work of contemporary artist Maurice Sendak. The style of the napkin, of the face of Christ, of the color scheme is all borrowed from his children’s book, “One Was Johnny.” And yet it remains an icon connected, as with a line, to the ancient language of Iconography. I was fascinated by Sendak’s work with lines in his illustration of the tiger in that particular book and used the lines of the tiger to paint the highlights on Christ’s face.
